THE CORONATION SWORD OF THE KINGS OF POLAND

by MARCIN BIBORSKI, JANUSZ STEPINSKI AND GRZEGORZ ZABINSKI

This is the article from the last volume of the Gladius Journal. The original file can be found on Journal website.

This article, 55 pages long, was written by fine archaeologists, amongst the other by Grzegorz Żabiński, whose excellent book on Longsword techniques is also available on my site in the BOOKSTORE.

The authors prepared very detailed research on the most important Polish medieval sword called “The Jagged Sword” – Szczerbiec, used for coronation ceremonies in Poland. The research is based on the newest metalurgical examines made by them on Jagiellonian University in Poland. They’re basicaly also arguing with the latest works on sword, mostly with prof. Zdzislaw Zygulski jun. and his thesis on the swords origin and symbolism.

The article is in English!

You can also read the other work on “The Jagged sword” by Andrzej Nadolski, available here
